This step is pretty important.
When I first got started online I would find myself surfing for hours, looking for information about something.
Much of that time was wasted.
I have found that if I cannot find something pretty quickly online, that it is probably not worth my time to keep looking for it.
Now, I have had scenarios where I knew exactly what I wanted, had seen it before, and knew that it was critical to my success, so I searched until I found it.
And I spent a lot more time online just looking for background information when I first got started, as I was learning about what would work and what would not.
But my greatest regret is that I did not spend more time just working.
And you may think that that is pretty crazy for me to say, having written 10 ebooks, including this one, publishing over 500 articles, writing multiple email campaigns, and creating multiple squeeze pages and web pages in just 6 months online, and yet I genuinely believe that if I had spent half as much time surfing and reading email, I would have twice the published works and twice the income I currently enjoy.
So all of that to say, be very careful where you spend your time online.
There are several things that you can do to help you control the time you spend online.
The first step really has more to do with spending enough time online, and that is that you have to schedule time to work online everyday.
If you are getting online because you want to get rich quick, and you do not want to work, you are mistaken.
It will not happen.
True success is possible online, but it will require work.
I work nearly 60 hours per week online, and most of that time is very productive time - it is spent writing or designing or researching or studying.
Sure, long term, I hope that I can work a few hours a week and enjoy the fruit of my hard work, and I believe that will happen - in the future.
The nice thing about working online is that once you do something one time, it pays off for the future.
For example, if you build a list today, that list can make you money in the future.
If you write articles today or build web sites today, or write books today, they can all yield income in the future.
But do not be deceived - you have to put in the time up front.
This is not work for the lazy person, but it is very rewarding for the right individual.
All of that to say, you must create a schedule to work with and then stick with that schedule.
If you are working this part time after work, set aside some reasonable time to do it.
You will not get rich online working 1 hour a day.
Set aside 4 hours a day to work online.
You may think that is impossible.
I have heard it said that the average person watches 60 hours of TV per week.
If you do not, please do not be offended.
But if you do, turn off the TV and get to work online.
Do you really want to succeed or not? If you are choosing to work fulltime online, then set aside at least 40 hours per week, and preferably more at the beginning.
You must commit to doing it.
There is no other way to become successful online than putting in the time.
