- 1). Separate the radiant barrier from the fiberglass insulation when removing the material from your attic or ceiling. Clean off any remaining fiberglass from the foil after removal. The cleaner the foil, the easier it will be for you to separate it from the fabric.
- 2). Cut the foil away from the interior fabric using a pair of scissors or cutting shears. The interior fabric provides additional support to prevent tearing of the foil, but can easily be cut through. Separating the foil will allow you to recycle the material while being able to throw away the remaining fabric.
- 3). Contact your city or county waste management office to determine how much foil you can leave for a curbside pickup. If you have a large amount of foil, you may be required to take the material to a recycling center. Bag and throw away the interior fabric as you would any other refuse.
