- Scholarships from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund average $2,200 per year. They are awarded through member universities and colleges to students with at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPS) and who receive recommendations from both the institution of higher education and the applicant's high school. Students can apply for all scholarships available through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund website.
- Any student who excels at academics, show leadership qualities and is a U.S. citizens or permanent residents can apply for one of the $40,000 Ron Brown scholarships. These scholarships are awarded for study at any university within the U.S., no matter what course of studies the applicant wants to pursue. A deadline of Nov. 1 is set for consideration of not only the Ron Brown Scholar Program but also for other scholarship providers. Applications postmarked by Jan. 9 are considered only for the Ron Brown Scholar Program. More information can be obtained by calling 434-964-1588 or emailing to info@ronbrown.org.
- Scholarships of up to $7,500 per year, for up to four years, are awarded to students who show leaderships qualities, high academic achievement and require financial assistance to attend an institute of higher learning. The Jackie Robinson Foundation also offers Extra Innings Fellowships to help pay the cost of graduate school or advanced professional training.
- The Program Services Department of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) is in charge of several scholarship programs. Each scholarship program has its own criteria, open and close dates and document requirements. Application should be made to each program using the online process on the UNCF website. Students who are currently attending a UNCF member institute of higher education should also complete the UNCF General Scholarship application.
- Scholarships are awarded to black men who are full-time matriculating students at accredited institutes of higher education. The applicant must meet the 100 Black Men of America Inc. criteria to be eligible, including a GPA of 2.5 or higher, showing leadership qualities such as being a team captain or class president, and having 50 hours of community service within the past 12 months. Scholarship money can be used to pay for tuition, books or housing. The online application is available at the 100 Black Men of America website.
