- 1). Flavor your homemade frosting with almond extract rather than vanilla for a fresh, clean flavor. Combine one cup of vegetable shortening, 4 cups of powdered sugar, one tsp. almond extract and 4 tbsp. milk in a mixing bowl. Beat on high speed until fluffy to create your own icing at home, rather than purchasing canned frosting for all of your desserts.
- 2). Add almond extract to your butter to make a nutty-flavored spread for your morning toast. Soften one stick of butter and whip together with 1/4 tsp. almond extract. Place in a lidded dish and use immediately or after refrigeration.
- 3). Add 1/4 tsp. almond extract to a bowl of oatmeal to add a touch of flavor. Add a handful of fresh fruit such as strawberries, blueberries, bananas or pineapple to create a fruity, nutty taste. Try the same with plain vanilla yogurt.
- 4). Use almond extract in place of amaretto when you don't want to cook with alcohol. Replace 2 tbsp. of amaretto with 1/2 tsp. almond extract in recipes.
- 5). Add almond extract when baking cookies, cakes, scones, biscotti, breads, cheesecakes and muffins to enhance their natural flavor. Experiment with 1/2 to 1 tsp. almond extract, pure or imitation.
