Most courses give the player a choice of tee blocks in which to start the hole from.
The tee blocks that make the yardage of the hole the longest, is meant for the more advanced golfer.
This is most noticeable on a hole rated as a par four.
Starting from these tee blocks in many cases would be the same as playing a par five, if you are an average golfer.
