- 1). Plug all the burrows you can find in your backyard with grass clippings or straw. Check the spots for three to five days.
- 2). Alternatively, close a woodchuck burrow by cutting a 3-foot-square piece of heavy-gauge fencing wire. Dig into the burrow a foot deep, place the fencing wire over the hole and refill the hole to cover the fencing.
- 3). Purchase animal urine, which is available at hunting supply stores, and pour it onto cat litter. Place the cat litter at the entrance of known active burrows and close the hole with soil. The smell drives out the woodchuck. You can also soak a rag in urine and stuff it in the hole.
