- 1). Learn from all of the relationship experiences that you've had. If you haven't been a part of the dating scene for a while, you may be surprised that some things have changed, like text messaging and the kinds of dates that are considered cool. Many aspects of dating, however, like knowing when you're being taken advantage of or lied to, are still very much the same.
- 2). Stay positive and maintain an open mind. When you start dating again, you will likely meet a lot of different types of people that carry with them a lot of emotional baggage from past relationships. Be careful not to cut someone out of your life before you have the chance to get to know the person.
- 3). Slow down. Remember that building relationships can take a long time. Focus on your friendship at first when you meet someone special and get a feel for how things would be if it developed into a relationship. Have plenty of deep conversations and really get to know people.
- 4). Introduce him to the most important people in your life when you are comfortable that you want to build a relationship for the long haul. When you're ready to take the relationship to the next level, ask your children over for dinner or bring him to your next family reunion to meet your parents.
- 5). Spend quality time together doing things that you both enjoy. Spend a day together hiking or spend the night talking by a hot fire. Do things that you are both interested in.
