- 1). Select a site for your arborvitae with full sun and moist, well-drained soil.
- 2). Select the proper-sized arborvitae for your site. Degroot's Spire is 10 feet tall and 3 feet wide. Danica is 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide, while Globosa is 5 feet tall and 5 feet wide. Measure the small space to be sure the arborvitae you choose won't be too big.
- 3). Add 2 to 3 inches of compost to the surface of the soil and work it into a depth of 18 inches.
- 4). Dig a hole as deep as the arborvitae's root ball and 2 times as wide. Place the tree into the hole and fill the hole with soil.
- 5). Water the arborvitae well for 10 minutes after planting.
