Get a website for your business.

The first thing you need to do if you haven't already is build a website for your business. Keep in mind that it does not have to be fancy and it doesn't need to cost thousands of dollars. Most local business can get away with one costing one thousands dollars or less.

Make sure your website is search engine optimized for keywords related to your business. Make sure those keywords are local to you area. For example if you are plumber in Dallas, TX don't use "plumber" rather use "dallas plumber" "dallas tx plumber". I'm sure you get the idea.

Get a listing on Google Places

Google Places is a free service that places your business listing on a map in the Google search results. You can add a listing for free and the listing allows you to provide information about your business. You will be able to add a map, directions, hours of operation, pictures and videos, as well as the are you service. Encourage you customers to leave reviews about you business on Google Places as it help you listing get a better ranking.

Create an Email List

On your website integrate an email capture script that allow you website visitors to opt-in to your email list. You can use this list to market to them with coupons, promotions etc. This will drive customers to your business. Email marketing is cheap and effective so use it.
