Cheaper Car Insurance Tips - Plan Before You Buy

Most teens reaching the legal driving age dream of owning and driving a shiny new sports car.
However, they usually do not think of the many different costs associated with that dream.
Purchasing the car is just the beginning.
Car insurance is a huge financial burden, as well, and lots of different factors, such as the type of car driven, determine how much the driver will pay to be insured.
As a general rule, any "high performance" car will cost you.
Some reasons that these cars cost more to insure are that the insurance companies know they are more likely to be driven recklessly and they are more likely to be stolen or broken into.
There are better alternatives that will save you hundreds of dollars on both the purchase and the insurance.
If you're trying to save on car insurance, consider an older car with good safety ratings.
This alone, however, may not necessarily mean lower rates.
You also need to consider the car theft statistics for your area and choose a car that is not frequently targeted.
Regardless of what you decide on, make sure the model comes with anti-theft features or have them installed to obtain valuable discounts on your policy.
Size doesn't count as much as many people believe when it comes to safety and, therefore, insurance rates.
A car with a fiberglass body, regardless of size, will generally cost more to insure than a smaller car with a metal body.
While getting a brand new car affects rates, older cars can have similar effects.
Be aware of getting too old of a vehicle.
Buying used is a good idea, but be sure the car still has low safety ratings.
Cars considered "too old" are less likely to have airbags and other standard safety features of newer cars, and these absences can affect both your wallet and your peace of mind.
Ultimately, you have to research the cars you're interested in well before you begin researching insurance rates.
You need to know which cars will save you and which will cost you.
A new vehicle is a theft risk, an old vehicle is a safety risk, a fast vehicle is an accident risk, and so on.
When you're shopping for cars, find the middle ground.
