It's such a common problem for our generation that back pain has been researched in depth over the past 100 years, but one thing that stands out is that we keep going back to the basics for a true cure! But can what we eat really effect back pain? Aside from actual injuries, back pain is typically born as a result of stress that builds in the body bringing with it physical imbalances which lead to irritation in the ligaments, to nerves and also your joints.
This stress originates from 3 main areas, physical, chemical and emotional, so a poor diet which ruins the chemical balance has the potential to cause or increase unwanted pain in the back.
A healthy and balanced diet will help relieve stress because it contains the necessary ingredients for a body to recover, regenerate and most importantly to relax, and as you can imagine when you're in a relaxed state your body is in the best situation to be able to ward off or recover from illness or injury.
In this day and age the reality is that the majority of us have a diet which includes a high percentage of processed and packaged foods.
Unfortunately we don't even know how much human intervention our fruit and vegetables have had during their growth so it is becoming ever more difficult to control our nutritional intake on a day to day basis.
On top of this I find that it's always the good tasting stuff that's the worst for us.
Fast food for example just fills the stomach, and injects unnatural levels of salt and bad fat into the system.
You won't gain anywhere near as much energy and strength from these types of food and as mentioned it is detrimental on a deeper ore long term level.
This does not mean that we should give up but just that it actually is more difficult time consuming and often more expensive to eat healthy; but the rewards are well worth the money and effort! The bad food does nothing for getting your body into a good condition for coping with a stress full lifestyle.
Common refined foods to avoid include those that contain white flour, sugar or salt.
Where possible you should avoid all refined carbohydrates including white breads and pastries! If you aim is to reduce back pain through a balanced diet it's obvious that you should try to eat a variety of mostly fresh foods with an emphasis on good old fashioned fruit, vegetables, nuts and grains with lean meats and fish being a great source .
Unfortunately the snacking in between meals is detrimental unless it's very, very healthy, and a common rule to stick to religiously is to never miss your breakfast.
An average person doesn't eat a huge amount of food each day, so it is important that what you do consume is high in nutrition, and any supplements should ideally be consumed in their most natural form such as organic whole foods, as your body will be more capable of accepting them into its system.
If you can get on the right track with your diet then not only can you improve your back pain but your will in addition gain more energy and general well being, therefore I am an advocate for everyone to have and maintain a healthy diet.
It's not easy trying to recondition your habits but it is a worth while journey, on which I wish you all good luck.
I recommend you continue to read up on this subject and make calculated decisions on what good eating habits are in this day and age!
