- 1). Consult your single friends. There's nobody more likely to be in touch with the current dating scene than a group of your peers. While married folk may be out of touch, there's nothing to replace the tips received from those who are currently on the market.
- 2). Talk to your parents. While you may think it's been about a hundred years since they were in the dating pool and things have no doubt changed, there's nothing like the solid guidance of a loving parent to open your eyes. Moms and/or dads often have a way of cutting through the crap that is ultimately refreshing.
- 3). Check out dating websites on the Internet. In this day and age, there are numerous sites devoted to dating questions and quandaries. From professional matchmaking sites to personal blogs, everyone has their opinion of what's right and wrong when it comes to dating. Take the advice that appeals to you and leave the rest alone.
- 4). Consult a professional. Whether you talk to a matchmaker, your therapist or a member of the clergy, sometimes an impartial view from an uninvolved observer is just the thing to sort out any questions you have. Many times you'll find your own answer just by talking the situation through with someone who is willing to listen.
- 5). Read articles in men's and/or women's magazines for current, up-to-date advice from professionals. Many magazines include book excerpts, quotes from authors and advice from psychiatrists and counselors. Look into books that delve into how to date successfully. Many can be found in the self-help section of your local bookstore, or you can order them online if you'd rather not purchase them in person.
