Chiropractic care is a main part of many individuals' lives throughout the country.
Chiropractic care treats and helps with many different problems ranging from headaches, neck pain, lower back pain, Sciatica and Scoliosis.
In chiropractic care we look for a problem called the Vertebral Subluxation Complex.
What is that? Well it is where we have a vertebra in the spine that is misaligned causing pressure on the surrounding nerves and support structures resulting in pain, discomfort and dysfunction.
With a subluxation we have problems with physiology (how the body works), histology (tissue changes), swelling, inflammation and nerve irritation.
You see it isn't just a bone out of alignment it is a bone out of alignment that causes other problems if not corrected quickly.
There are many causes of subluxations including car accidents, slips, falls, lifting wrong, sleeping wrong, sitting wrong and normal aging.
Regular chiropractic checks will discover subluxations before they can fester and become a bigger problem.
When a subluxation is found, it is corrected by physically moving the bone back into place with manipulation or adjustment to the bone.
The pressure is then released from the nerve and surrounding tissues.
Because there is a lot of neurology that is affected by that problem the nerves will cause the bone to misalign again so additional care is needed to totally correct the problem.
In chiropractic care there are many different ways to get the bone corrected.
Doctors of Chiropractic (DC) have spent 4 years in school learning everything there is to know about the body.
In fact most chiropractors spend as much time in school as medical doctors with similar schooling completed.
There are the manual treatments that are done with the doctor physically moving the bone.
These include but are not limited to Gonstead, Chiropractic Biophysics, Diversified and Motion Palpation.
Then there are the instrument-assisted adjustments including Activator, Impulse, and Pettibon.
Now these are not the only techniques but, due to patients' individuality, only certain techniques work with certain patients.
The trick is finding the technique that works best for you.
In my office we do Activator, Impulse, Diversified and Thompson Drop Table.
I have found that at least one of these four will work for almost all patients.
