How to Get Rid of Wart Scars

    • 1). Wear sunscreen on the scarred area daily. The sun's damaging rays can increase the appearance of wart scars. If you are outdoors for extended periods of time, keep the area covered with sun-protective clothing. Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen on the area daily, even when it is overcast or raining.

    • 2). Apply cocoa butter to your wart scars daily. Studies have shown that regular application of cocoa butter can have a positive effect on scars, including wart scars. You can find cocoa butter in most drugstores.

    • 3). Purchase a scar-management cream or ointment such as Mederma and apply three times daily. Creams such as these contain onion extract, which has been shown to significantly reduce the appearance of scars. Scar-management creams work best on new scars, so try to begin application as soon as you have your wart removed. You will need to apply the cream multiple times a day for six to 24 weeks to see results.

    • 4). Place scar treatment sheets on the scarred areas. These sheets are made from a silicone base and have been shown to improve scars over time. You simply apply the sheets to the area and leave them there for several weeks.

    • 5). Massage the scars when you apply treatment creams. Massage helps to increase circulation to the area and break up scar tissue. The faster the scar tissue is broken up, the sooner your scar will disappear. Be gentle though. The skin is delicate when it is damaged.

    • 6). See a dermatologist regarding Retin-A and alpha-hydroxy creams that help to improve scars. These creams encourage skin cell regeneration, meaning that new skin cells form more quickly to replace the older, scarred cells. You do need a prescription for these medicated creams so discuss the benefits with your doctor.

    • 7). Consult your dermatologist regarding chemical peels for the scarred skin. The chemical peels penetrate the top layers of skin, essentially removing them. This can help to improve the appearance of scars by removing some of the damaged skin. Scars do generally exist deep within the skin so the peels will not completely remove the scars, however, they can substantially lessen them with repeated treatments.

    • 8). Consider laser treatments. Lasers can remove damaged skin cells and encourage collagen production in the skin. This means that newer, younger-looking skin will appear more quickly. Scars can be greatly reduced with the use of lasers, however, it's important that a doctor assesses your particular skin tone prior to prescribing laser treatment.
