- 1). Remove the sleeves from the sweatshirt jacket by cutting every third stitch in the sleeve/shoulder seam with the seam ripper. Slide the pointed end of the seam ripper under the thread, and then push forward gently while lifting up. Slice through the threads with the sharp edge inside the seam ripper's curve. Pick out the loose threads.
- 2). Turn the vest inside-out. Fold the raw edge of the sleeve hole over 1/4-inch to form a thin hemline inside the sleeve hole.
- 3). Set the sewing machine to make a finishing stitch such as a blanket stitch, an over-lock stitch or a zigzag stitch. Sew all the way around the sleeve hole, sewing over the raw folded edge to reinforce the sleeve hole while finishing the seam.
- 4). Position and pin the reflective tape horizontally near the center of the vest. Use one long strip of reflective tape to go from just inside the zipper on one side, across the back, and to just inside the zipper on the other side.
- 5). Sew 1/8 inch from the edge of the tape. Sew all the way around the top, sides and bottom edges of the tape.
