About Chrome Plating.
Chrome Plating is an easy to clean and extremely tough metal finish.
For many years many kinds of furniture have been Chrome Plated, in chemical baths throughout the UK and Europe.
Unfortunately, Chrome Plating can cause terrible damage, to both those persons involved in the manufacturing process and the environment.
C.
to protect ourselves and The Environment.
E.
C.
directives have seen the closure of many Chromium Plating plants, whilst European and Scandinavian manufacturers have found fresh alternatives to Chrome Plating.
Sadly, little has been done in the Far East as foreign industries are not affected by European Law.
Chrome Plated foreign goods are now routinely imported into the UK en mass, from factories which have no legal requirement to protect their workers or The Environment.
How can I identify imported Chrome Plated furniture? It is quite difficult to identify furniture which has been imported from a possibly dubious source, from that which has been responsibly produced within E.
U.
guidelines.
As with any furniture, we would suggest that you ask your supplier; reputable suppliers who care about such matters, will know exactly where there metal is plated.
Sadly, the cost of Chromium Plated furniture is often prohibitive.
Fortunately, Epoxy Powder Coating (EPC) has improved a great deal and offers excellent protection for metal frame furniture, in almost all applications.
If you really need Chromium Plated Furniture, then you need to consider the costs.

Frequently, metal ions are introduced into waterways by industry...What has been done to prevent the damage? Quite a lot has been done within the E.
Many of the metal ions are toxic to humans, and their release must be monitored and controlled carefully.
