DYW also awards a number of annual scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. Contestants are judged on the basis of academic achievement, talent, physical fitness, self-expression, and a personal interview. STAR Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $2,500. To be eligible, a student must be no older than 20 at the time of application, must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, and must be recommended by a P.E.O. chapter.
