- 1). Brush your hair smooth with a good quality brush or comb. Make sure hair is completely detangled and knot free. The application of a hair-care or detangling product may be necessary before brushing to ensure complete smoothness.
- 2). Guide your hair into the desired ponytail using your hand along with a comb. Ponytails can be located higher or lower on the head based on personal preference.
- 3). Hold the base of the ponytail with your dominate hand making sure that the elastic band you wish to use is also located on your dominate hand around the wrist.
- 4). Keep the ponytail in your dominate hand and remove the elastic band from its designated wrist with your non-dominate hand. As you do this, pull the ponytail through the hole of the band so that it is wrapped around hair once. You should now be holding the ponytail with your dominate hand and the elastic band should be wrapped around the ponytail and in your non-dominate hand.
- 5). Make sure the elastic band is wrapped around the fingers of your non-dominate hand about an inch down from your fingertips. It should not be around your wrist this time. With the elastic band wrapped around your fingers, rotate your wrist in a counter-clockwise motion twisting the band into a figure-eight shape, crossing at the center. Keeping the band wrapped around your fingers in this shape, hold the ponytail at the base with your non-dominate hand (the one with the elastic band) and pull the band over the ponytail using your other, dominate hand. Once hair has been guided through the elastic band, the ponytail should now be wrapped twice.
- 6). Repeat the last step for a tighter ponytail. Do so until the elastic band is wrapped around hair the desired amount of times.
