- 1). Insert a Game Boy Advance version of "Pokemon" into the bottom cartridge slot of the Nintendo DS.
- 2). Begin your "Pokemon: Platinum" game file.
- 3). Fly to Eterna City in western Sinnoh.
- 4). Travel west to reach Route 205.
- 5). Cross the bridge on Route 205 and walk through the opening in the trees on the other side of the pond to enter the Eterna Forest.
- 6). Walk northwest through the Eterna Forest to find the Old Chateau.
- 7). Hack the shrubs blocking the entrance to the Old Chateau with the Cut ability. Enter the old mansion.
- 8). Walk up the balcony steps and go through the doorway in the rear of the room. You will find a corridor lined with doors.
- 9). Enter the fifth room from the left.

Walk around the room until you encounter a wild Gengar. Gengar's encounter rate is eight percent, and it will be at level 16. - 11
Weaken Gengar with attacks. It is vulnerable to Ghost-, Psychic- and Dark-type moves. - 12
Throw a Poke Ball to capture Gengar.
