Uterine Fibroids- Fact Or Fiction?

There have been many studies done on uterine fibroids over the years, as well as, myths surrounding the subject.
While one study will say one thing, another one will say just the opposite.
Then when you add in all the myths, its know wonder your somewhat confused.
How can you really know what is fact from fiction, especially when the medical studies are conflicting each others findings? Can you really believe one study over another? Or do you simply bury your head in the sand and believe the ones that make you feel better about your situation? If that is the case you may want to stop reading this article now! However, if you want to know the truth about your situation, then you need to read on! Most medical authorities will tell you that uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths of the uterus! While, that's true in most cases, it's not true in all cases.
There are cases where the fibroids have grown very rapidly, and have been found to be cancerous! It is damn near impossible to tell from an ultrasound if the fibroid is cancerous or not.
What the ultrasound will show is if its growing, and at what rate.
Some authorities will say that 50% of women have uterine fibroids.
While others will tell you that 3 out of every 4 women have them.
They all agree that most women don't know they have them until they are found on a routine pelvic exam, or while conducting an ultrasound for other reasons.
The fact is that most women do have uterine fibroids, even if they're not aware of them.
The fact is that unless you are having severe symptoms, or their found by accident through other tests or exams, you probably won't know you have them.
You probably just believe the symptoms you are experiencing is normal.
The reason you believe this, is because you have gotten use to this as being the way it is for you.
So you believe this to be the normal functioning of your body.
This is simply not true! The fact is that the following symptoms are not normal: Heavy Menstrual Bleeding- soaking through a pad or tampon in an hour Prolonged Menstrual Period- seven days or longer Pelvic Pressure or Pain Frequent urination or Difficulty Emptying Your Bladder- leading to incontinence Chronic Constipation- pressure or pain upon deification Chronic Backache or Leg Pain Painful Intercourse You may have some or all of these symptoms.
Depending on where your fibroids are located, and how big they are, will determine what symptoms you will experience.
So what can you do? You can watch and wait, take medications, have surgery, or you can do alternative therapies.
With the watch and wait method, you are waiting to see if the fibroid grows larger.
In most instances they do grow as time passes.
Taking medications can shrink the fibroid .
However, it does not eliminate them, and can cause many side effects.
Some of which can be worse than the original problem.
The surgical approach will eliminate the fibroid.
However, depending on the procedure you have, the fibroid can grow back.
In the instance of a hysterectomy, it will leave you unable to bear children, and taking hormone replacements for the rest of your life.
Also, as with any surgery there can be many complications, some of which can be life threatening.
With the alternative therapy method you can shrink or even eliminate the fibroids, without the nasty side effects of medications, or the complications of surgery.
