Many of us are not able to convert liabilities into strengths.
In fact, we are always in a state of shock orhelplessness whenever we come face to face with the situations which arise out of liabilities.
It is time when we realize that liabilities or weaknesses should have been dealt with in the beginning itself, but the thing we do not realize is that one can always covert their weakness into strength which can help us deal with the present situation & the best part is that it can be guided through to make our future better than what it could have been.
China!!! I am sure you must have guessed the example I am going to highlight to show how the country was able to convert its biggest "supposed to be " liability into a "reckoned to be " strength.
Way back in late 90's, during my college days, I remember that India had just crossed a billion (the U.
N.
's Population Division precisely placed the date of the one billionth resident as Sunday, August 15, 1999) & everyone was a little amused.
But at the same time everyone was happy & relieved at the fact that at least we are still better off than China which at that time was ahead of us by over quarter a billion souls (1.
27 Billion as in August 1999).
It was the time when every panel discussion, every expert committee had a topic on "alarming" population growth rate, how to control it, the negatives, the disadvantages etc.
In short, everywhere only the shortcomings, negative aspects & disadvantages were being discussed.
Nowhere the thing was taken up as a "would be" strength, the positive side of it etc.
Everyone, right from the political arena to the diplomats to the top brass of planning committee of India were apprehensive about the population growth.
At the same time China was written off by the developed countries, the WHO, the United Nations Organisation & other "influential" segments of the developed world.
It was said that China would become history.
But what happened next is history.
The way China used its people & money power to build a humongous empire is an example to be praised & followed.
India has still not followed the example set by China.
Till now, no factory in India is comparable to an average Chinese unit.
The opportunity loss in Foreign Direct Investment, if calculated would run into some hundreds of billion dollars if not more.
The reforms in India are still not at the level they should have been by now.
The investment window in India, compared to that of China, can be called as very slow.
The red tapism is still prevalent which poses the biggest hurdle.
In the light of the above data, China is better off than India.
One can say that in China the condition of workers is bad.
Is it better in India? I say, its worse in India.
At least the people get employment in China.
Condition of workers can be improved over time, but if there is no employment, how is it going to help or improve their condition? China has converted its biggest liability into strength & by means of strict laws on population control it has made its future even better.
