- 1). Visit the Security Freeze link on the TransUnion website. This option allows you to remove your TransUnion credit freeze online. You must register for the State Security Freeze website. You will have to provide your name, address, date of birth, social security number, and answer questions regarding information on your TransUnion credit report. If a credit freeze removal fee applies, you will have to pay by credit card.
- 2). Call TransUnion at 1-888-909-8872. This is an automated system in which you must follow the prompts to have your credit freeze removed. You must have your social security number, date of birth, and your Security Freeze PIN, which you should have been provided with online, by phone, or mail when you placed the credit freeze on your TransUnion credit report. If a credit freeze removal fee applies, you must pay by credit card. Since this system is automated, your credit freeze will be removed within a few minutes.
- 3). Mail a written request or Security Freeze form, which can be downloaded from the TransUnion website to TransUnion. In your request, you must include your TransUnion file number, Security Freeze PIN, and payment of credit freeze removal fee if applicable. Your TransUnion file number is located at the top of your most recent TransUnion credit report. By providing this information in your mailed request, you do not have to provide your social security number which safeguards your identity. Within three business days of your request, TransUnion will remove your credit freeze.
