Why do some people neglect and abuse defenseless animals?Cases of animal cruelty seem to be on the rise and are happening everywhere.
It seems a day doesn't pass without reading of some terrible inhumane treatment to animals.
We've all heard of the dog and puppy mills, but there's so much more out there.
In Ottumwa, IA a kennel of all places, a place that is supposed to be caring for your pets, was recently shut down due to concerns of animal neglect and inhumane living conditions.
The kennel floors were covered in feces, the place was dimly lit and several animals were crowded together into metal dog crates.
In the United Kingdom, a couple was recently jailed for their inhumane treatment of dogs and cats.
Living in a 7 ft.
by 12 ft.
trailer, cat carriers were crammed with two and three cats and then stacked on top of each other.
There were 34 cats in all.
Seven dogs were also kept inside the trailer.
These horrific living conditions caused the animals to be flea-ridden, underfed, have difficulty breathing and they were standing in their own waste.
Rescue workers described the conditions as appalling.
The smaller dogs were put in dog carriers and the cats were separated into more cat carriers then signed over to the British SPCA for treatment.
The couple, in addition to jail, was banned from having pets for life.
I think the saddest thing I read recently told of a six week old puppy and a cat who were beaten to death, put in a trash bag and left outside an animal shelter in West Virginia.
What is wrong with people?!! I think the British courts had the right idea of banning those who neglect and abuse animals from ever having them again.
Please, if you can't take care of an animal with love and kindness, stay away from them all together.
