Where to Put Cologne on the Body

    • 1). Learn the difference among the fragrance oils. Perfume is the most concentrated fragrance made with mixtures of oil and alcohol. Next is Eau de Perfume, which is less expensive than perfume and has less concentration of oils. Eau de toilette and cologne are about the same in concentration though Eau de toilette may be a slightly higher concentration. Because perfume is the most concentrated, it is the most expensive and lasts the longest. It can last up to eight hours and should be used sparingly. Dab it behind the ears and on the wrists. This should be enough. Because cologne is the least concentrated, it needs to be reapplied about every two to three hours and may be dabbed in more areas.

    • 2). Learn your skin type before applying colognes. People with dry skin need to apply their fragrance more often than people with oily skin. If you have dry skin, apply a moisturizer or powder with the same scent as the cologne. Then add the cologne. This will help keep the fragrance longer. Apply to the back of the knees, between the breasts, on the wrists and behind the ears. Don't spray the cologne. Instead, spray it on your fingers and dab it. For an all-day lasting effect, spray a small amount in your hair.

    • 3). Choose colognes with care. Because each person has a different PH as well as a different skin type, colognes will react with the skin creating a slightly different smell. The best way to pick out colognes is to bring the samples home in a zip lock bag and try them out. Spraying a cologne in a store will only give you a quick hit of smell that is not the actual scent. Besides, when you are in a store, you are competing with many different fragrances.

    • 4). Apply cologne with care. Even though cologne has less of a concentration of oils, it still has a powerful scent if too much is applied. Avoid using the atomizer spray. It's too difficult to control how much cologne is applied. By spraying it on your finger and dabbing it, you have more control. Don't use cologne when you are exercising. When you are hot, the scent will be stronger. Don't spray cologne on your clothes because it can stain, and always put your cologne on before dressing. It's difficult to remove the smell from clothing.
