How to avoid Interview Jitters

Her mind suddenly is hostage to a whirlpool of random thoughts and of which nothing seems relevant to match with the question. "Miss Sarah, tell me how long do you think would it take you to make a meaningful contribution to our firm?" repeated one of the three men in front of her as she sipped water for the tenth time. Few seconds later, while struggling with her fingers, she found her self jabbering...
We have heard several stories of job candidates who looked great on paper but who were absolute disasters in person. A job interview is similar in many ways to a social conversation, however it requires more than just conversational skills.
Talking about opportunities, appearing unprepared for a job interview would not only make you look uninterested but you might also loose your edge to those who come well prepared. You can start by doing some research about the company. Be sure not to memorize answers, the key to success is simply be prepared and have a mental outline to follow in responding to each question. You may also want to go a step ahead and find out the interviewer's name, how many people are involved in the interviewing process and who the final decision maker is. Keep a positive frame of mind.
Once done with the preparation you will want to draw your attention towards your appearance. Like it or not, the choice of your attire for the day of interview could actually make or break your chances of getting your dream job. Most of the time, men should wear suits to job interviews. A navy blue or darker gray suit is usually your best bet, while black is seen as less apropos. And don't forget to wear a tie with it. Similarly, for women a dark coloured two piece suit or shalwar kameez is a classy way to look professional. Avoid flambouyant colours and shimmering clothing. Be well groomed, keeping in mind that your clothes arent the only important element of your appearnace Polish your shoes. Most important is to feel comfortable in what you are in, so don't go overboard with the professional look, dress conservatively and if confused be more on the formal side than casual.
Finally your big day has arrived and surely you wouldn't want to be late for it. Plan to arrive exactly ten minutes before your actual appointment. There is no excuse for tardiness at an interview. In case you can't avoid being late, at least give them a courtesy call letting them know.
Research tells us that the average interviewer's attention span does not last more than 90 seconds. In this short time your job is to keep the interviewer interested. Be precise, relevant and do not go and on an about a personal stories. However, people are naturally drawn to stories. It may arouse interest for the interviewer.
