- 1). Stay at one of the many historical bed and breakfasts or in local hotels such as the Monmouth Plantation. The Monmouth Plantation houses 30 rooms of luxurious southern elegance. The rooms at The Monmouth Plantation are divided into 4 categories: deluxe rooms, antebellum rooms, deluxe suites and superior suites.
- 2). Take a carriage tour. No other activity sets the tone for a Natchez vacation more than taking a downtown carriage ride. Carriage tour companies, such as Southern Carriage Tours, provide a 45-minute guided tour through the Natchez streets. Tour guides give brief historical information about homes, churches, buildings and cemeteries. It would be wise to plan a carriage ride in the first part of your trip so you will better familiarize yourself with local attractions.
- 3). Visit antebellum homes. Before the Civil War, records indicate that Natchez was home to more millionaires per capita than any other U.S. city, leaving behind gorgeous homes for us to admire today. Several homes are opened year around for tours, and in the spring and fall, Natchez residents host the Natchez Pilgrimage, a citywide event where public and privately owned antebellum homes open their doors to tours. Homeowners and tour guides dress in period attire to make the experience more authentic. Contact the Natchez Visitor Reception Center to purchase all tour tickets and other information.
- 4). Visit area casinos. The Mississippi River is home to many casinos, and all are just a short drive away. However, there is only one in the immediate Natchez area. The Isle of Capri Casino features a 143-room hotel, 2 restaurants, over 700 slots as well as blackjack and roulette.
