- 1). Turn the ignition key to the "off," position and remove it from the ignition switch. By doing so you cut the electrical circuit, and this will allow you to handle the negative battery cable without getting a shock.
- 2). Unthread the nut or bolt attaching the 6-volt negative battery to the battery. Follow the negative cable to the ground wire housing located on the frame of the tractor or the block of the engine. Unthread the bolt attaching the ground wire -- negative battery cable -- to the ground housing.
- 3). Bolt the 12-volt battery cable to the ground housing. Attach the other end of the cable to the negative battery terminal.
