- It is normal for a girl who first gets her period to have irregular days or even skip them altogether. For the first year, periods can go longer or shorter than the first one you ever had. Your normal cycle likely won't be set until a year or two later. There are also other reasons your period might be absent. Stress, dieting and overexercising are all possible reasons for a period skipping on you. A more serious reason might be pregnancy. If you have had unprotected sex and have skipped a period, you may be pregnant and should get tested immediately.
- Most girls have pubic hair. Most are careful not to shave too close to the opening of the vagina. Shaving pubic hair can cause cuts or ingrown hairs. The hair around the vagina is meant to protect it from dirt and irritants that may cause infections. When shaving pubic hair, always exfoliate, cleanse with warm water, and use a clean razor and shave gel.
- It is possible you have a urinary tract infection, or a UTI. A UTI is caused by bacteria or germs getting into the urethra and infecting it. You can treat a UTI with an antibiotic. If you have a mild case, a home remedy may work. Cranberry juice (unsweetened) or a glass of water with baking soda may ease the burning. See a doctor within two days, as a UTI can become worse if not treated.
