- 1). Buy a current copy of the Wall Street Journal, Investor's Business Daily or other comprehensive business daily. Go to the mutual fund tables in the section of the paper that also includes stock quotations, current interest rates, commodities prices and other market information.
- 2). Find your fund, which should be listed under the family name of the mutual fund company that offers it. These fund families, such as Vanguard and Fidelity, are listed in alphabetical order in the mutual fund tables.
- 3). Look under the "Year-to-Date" or YTD Return column, which is most often the last column in the chart. The YTD return is the performance of the fund, net of all dividends and fees, since the first business day of the year.
- 4). Go to the Internet and verify the YTD performance by visiting your fund family's web site, or an independent source of business and market information such as Morningstar.com or Yahoo! Finance/Investing/Mutual Funds.
