One way to do this is to make a deal with the high traffic website to provide a link on your website back the theirs.
In return they put a link on their website back to your site.
This technique is called reciprocal linking and is very common.
You will have to make sure however that your site is in the same niche market as theirs and that your site provides good content and compliments their products.
You may also find places where you can buy links from high traffic websites for a reasonable price.
Anyway you can do it the time and money will be well spent.
