- 1). Purchase a tube of Finacea. Finacea is available by prescription only. It is sold in a 50-gram tube. Each gram includes 15 percent azelaic acid in a gel base.
- 2). Wash your face with a gentle cleanser such as Cerave or Cetaphil. Pat dry. Avoid using medicated cleansers that cause irritation when combined with Finacea.
- 3). Massage a thin coat of Finacea to the entire area to be treated. If you are treating the facial area, avoid the mouth, eyes and nose. Apply twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening.
- 4). Allow time for the medication to take effect. Improvement should be noted after three to four weeks.
