Head Lice Prevention and Treatment After School Breaks

School aged children love extended breaks from the tedium of classes.
Going back to school spending time with family or going on vacation is a very exciting time.
Children get to tell their friends about the places they've gone, people they've seen and gifts they've received.
They often put their heads together while talking, playing and sharing secrets about their adventures during school break.
Unfortunately they may share more than just secrets and exciting tales.
Head lice do not jump or fly.
They rely on their six legs to carry them from one person to another.
They may even temporarily wait on objects such as coats, hats or even furniture.
A louse may live for up to 2 days waiting for its next host.
Treatment Options Head lice treatment options vary from household remedies to chemicals that kill nearly on contact.
Some people prefer using chemicals readily available over the counter, while others prefer to take a natural, organic approach.
Vinegar naturally dissolves the glue-like substance with which nits are attached to the hair strand.
Apply vinegar to the hair, wrap in a warm, damp towel and keep warm to allow the vinegar to work its magic.
Rinse thoroughly and apply a conditioner or cream rinse to remove tangles, and then comb with a louse removal comb.
Olive oil is very thick and drowns adult lice and nymphs.
Apply a substantial amount of olive oil to the hair and scalp.
Let it soak for an hour, and then rinse thoroughly.
Shampoo if needed, and use a louse removal comb.
Doctors may prescribe medicated shampoo, conditioners or lotions to kill out stubborn infestations.
Many times, these extreme measures are simply not necessary.
Before trying harsh chemicals or incurring the expense of a physician, try other home remedies or 100% natural head lice treatment options.
Preventative Measures Many companies sell products that prevent head lice infestations.
Products containing tea tree oil are a sure bet, because head lice hate the smell and avoid it.
Your best bet is to find products that are 100% natural and recommended for prolonged use.
Head Lice and the Home Head lice removal from the hair is time consuming.
Ensure your family is protected by treating your home as well.
Look for products that are safe for your furniture as well as your family.
Vacuum often while treating for an infestation.
Empty your vacuum each time it is used and discard contents quickly and properly.
Wash all bedding and clothing in very hot water.
Leave items in the dryer a little longer than necessary; a louse cannot survive temperatures higher than 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
Heavy infestations may require the help of head lice removal experts.
Remember This List of Things Not to Do Do not use a hair dryer on the hair after using treatments that contain flammable substances.
Extreme heat may damage the scalp, hair, or even start a fire.
Do not use conditioner before applying medication or chemicals to get rid of head lice.
Conditioner may provide a layer of protection, allowing the insects to survive.
Do not use products that are not for use on humans to bet rid of them.
Only use products that are approved for use on human hair and skin to prevent sickness or other harmful effects.
Do not apply the same treatment more than three times.
If the treatment doesn't appear to be working, try a different treatment.
Maintain a Head Lice Free Environment Head lice prevention is much easier than it sounds.
Try 100% natural and organic products to reduce side effects like illness or dry skin or hair.
Furniture spray, helmet spray and leave-in tonics are excellent starts to maintain a lice free environment.
