Through these efforts, India is quickly showcasing itself as a top spot to earn a high-quality, globally recognized law degree. - The National Law School of India University in Bangalore is known widely as India's premier legal institution. "India Today" has ranked it the country's No. 1 law school in eight of the past 10 years. The university admits only 80 students each year into its competitive, five-year bachelor of arts (B.A.) LL.B. (Honours) program. Students are selected annually by sitting a national entrance exam. Five places are reserved annually for outstanding international students, and the school shares highly successful exchange programs with some of the world's best educational institutions, including Georgetown University, the National University of Singapore, Osgoode Hall Law School and Hamburg University.
The University also offers a challenging and highly prestigious postgraduate degree (LL.M). The University in 2010 offers two specializations -- Business Law and Human Rights Law, with only 25 placements for each specialization, and two places reserved for international students. Prospective postgraduate students must sit for the standardized, nationwide Common Law Admissions Test (CLAT) to be considered for entry.
The University also offers several online degree programs: Business Law, Human Rights Law and IP Law, for example, which are structured as part-time programs for working students or adults who need flexible schedules. The school is also home to India's largest law library.
