- 1). Obtain the proper business licenses for your venture from your state and municipality. The licensing requirements for dog grooming services vary from location to location, so be sure to contact the local and state governments where you live for the proper forms.
- 2). Select a vehicle that can accommodate the grooming equipment you need to carry with you on the road. You will need space for a tub or wash basin, as well as room for your grooming equipment. If you have an SUV, van or enclosed truck you may be able to build shelves into the sides of the vehicle. Also make sure you have a generator to provide power for the clippers, electric nail trimmers and other powered equipment.

Purchase any addiional insurance you may need. Contact your insurance company and inform your agent that you plan to use your vehicle for business. Your personal insurance policy may not cover the business use of your vehicle, so it is important to inform the agent of your plans and purchase any additional insurance you may need. - 4). Contact a local sign painter and have a vehicle billboard made for your truck, van or SUV. Be sure to use large letters so those driving by will be able to see the name of your business and the phone number.
- 5). Make up business cards and fliers and display them at places where pet owners congregate such as the local dog park, pet stores and veterinary offices. Get the permission of the business owners before posting any materials. If there is no dog park in your neighborhood, walk around the area and give your cards to anyone walking a dog.
- 6). Introduce yourself to each person you meet and give that person a business card. Even if the recipients do not need your services, someone they know might need those services.
