Creative stimulation is a vital necessity for any artist whether they are a musician, painter, jewelry maker or any other creative discipline.
But sometimes, I think we can fall into a creative rut.
I know I certainly do at times in many of my creative outlets.
I love to play blues guitar, but I sometimes find myself picking up a guitar and playing the same songs I have played for years.
They are easy, I sound good and they are so very comfortable.
However, when I attend a concert and hear a guitarist pushing the limits, it so stimulates me that I cannot wait to get home and grab my guitar and try what I just heard.
My jewelry making is an area where I really try to push the limits and explore new ideas and techniques.
There are times; I have to admit, when I sit down to draw up a new design, I find I struggle with playing with similar shapes and movements, which are comfortable for me.
What to do?? This is when it is time for a create mind vacation.
CMV's can be as simple as a short break to extended days of exploration.
But no matter what type you chose, you will find the stimulation of your creative mind very rewarding.
A simple CMV can be taking a few minutes to look through some old jewelry magazines or even catalogs.
Perhaps venture online to visit some other jewelry maker's websites.
Looking at other peoples work is always exciting for me.
When I study their work, I look to find pieces I like and pieces I do not like.
What makes you like what you are seeing in someone's jewelry? Be very specific and distill down to the exact components and their interactions, which pleases you.
You might even want to keep a notebook filled with inspirations.
When you feel the need for a longer vacation, take an afternoon go local art galleries and custom jewelry shops hopping.
Spend time seeing the shapes and movements in different pieces of artwork.
You do not need to try and stay in your specific artistic discipline, you can learn much for all kinds of art.
I once saw a hot rod with fantastic pin stripping.
Some of it just looked like jewelry! If you get a chance to talk with the artist, take the time to really ask about the work.
What were they thinking about when they created the art? What are some of their inspirations? Every artist likes to talk about their work and the emotional impact it creates.
You will find your creative self, becoming very involved the discussions.
Need a more extensive Creative Mind Vacation? Grab you suitcase and head off on the road.
I love doing this! There is no specific destination, just lots of exciting places to stop and explore the art.
I take extensive notes about the art I am seeing and about the wonderful places and people I find.
They are all creatively stimulating.
I am always amazed at how many little galleries in quaint little towns there are to be found.
Tired of the galleries, no problem.
Take Mother Nature by the hand and let her share her creative wonders.
Try a walk on the beach exploring shapes and movement your eye catches.
You will be very surprised at the influence nature can have on your creative mind.
You might find a camera to be an excellent tool to add to your notebook.
I can really not find any reason to become creatively stagnant.
There are so many easy and powerful Creative Mind Vacations for everyone to enjoy.
