Tattoos have special meaning and significance to certain cultures . The most notable among these are the Maori's and to a lesser extent the other South Sea Islanders . You've all heard about tikis and such , they're emblems associated with good luck . In essence ,  they're tribal tattoos because they are found within the people's system of beliefs .

Because of this , such designs have true belief behind them . They also may hold significance as signs of strength , courage , wisdom or even love within such cultures . Choosing the right design to these people is very important because of this and a lot of thought goes into it . Such decisions are not taken lightly .

In the past , such designs were worn by the greatest and fiercest of warriors and today are still seen in that light by members of these communities . To bear them upon your person is considered to be a great responsibility and one not to be entered into lightly .
