You can make several of these alien heads and they can invade your house or decorate a party. Place them so they are peeking out from behind fixtures and furniture, out of bowls filled with treats or anywhere else they may surprise any visitors. You can also use green chenille stems to give them arms and legs.
- Age Guideline: 6 Years and Up
- Time Required: 60 minutes (Does not include drying time)
The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.
Materials Needed:
- Light Bulb
- Newspaper
- Paper Mache Paste
- Paint
- Craft Foam or Felt
- Craft Glue or Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Paint Brush
- Scissors
Instructions:
Lay done a piece of newspaper or wax paper on your work surface. Use these paper mache techniques to cover the light bulb with 2 or 3 layers. Make sure you let each layer dry before adding the next. If you prefer, you can skip the paper mache, but then you need to be very careful that your light bulb does not break.
Once the final paper mache layer is dry, paint the alien head any color you desire, green works well. While the paint is drying, draw a teardrop shape on black craft foam or felt and cut it out. Glue them in place. Add two small, black dots for the nostrils. As I mentioned previously, you can give your alien some arms and legs using chenille stems.
