We humans are very strange creatures.
While on the one side, we will do everything in our power to keep ourselves safe, and to also keep our children safe, on the other side of the coin, we will go to a burger joint, order the most unhealthy meal possible, and then ask for a diet drink to go with it.
Where is the reasoning behind that? It is actions like this that got me thinking; how seriously do we really take our lives when we talk about being healthy, preventing diseases, and looking out for our children to make sure that they are safe? I know that we mean well, but why do we do such crazy things, even when we mean well? I once knew a girl who was compulsively into her vitamins.
She knew everything about vitamins, minerals, Omega oils, and any other type of essential nutrients that you can think of, and she lived by them.
She was also a chain smoker and would enjoy a little more than just a few glasses of wine every night.
When I asked her why there was such a huge difference from one group of actions to another, she simply smiled sheepishly and shrugged.
She knew that what she was doing was ridiculous, but somehow it made her feel better knowing that she was doing something healthy.
It was her way of saying that it was okay as long as you took those vitamins, minerals, and Omega oils.
Now, some might say that the reason why she took those vitamins was simply to slow down the damage that both the alcohol and cigarettes were doing to the body.
But my question is, why go through so much trouble when you can simply not smoke and not drink? I know that it's difficult to simply quit something that is addictive, but if we really take our lives that seriously, why do we put ourselves through so much hell? We are not talking about a girl that is extremely depressed and feels that she is nothing to live for.
The reason why she started smoking was simply because she thought it was fun, and is now addicted to it, and the reason why she drinks more than a few glasses of wine every night is simply because she finds it relaxing.
We are talking about an average person that is able to think sanely, and understands just what they are getting themselves into.
Here is something to really think about: The World Health Organization has stated that up to 80% of deaths in the industrialized world is due to cancer and heart disease.
If you take a look at that sentence you will realize that this is 80% of all deaths.
This means that these deaths include wars, natural disasters, trauma, crime, suicide, and any other type of cause that you can think of.
With so many toxins in the industrial world nowadays, these statistics are not so surprising, are they? What is surprising is how we let ourselves continue to live under these circumstances, and then to worsen the situation, by choice, we deliberately add more toxins into our body.
