Emperor Valley Zoo
This national zoo is located in the capital of Trinidad, Port of Spain. The zoo started operating in 1952 and has more than 220 species, the majority being indigenous to these regions. Some of the animals you will find here are ocelots, macaws, and iguanas. You will also have the opportunity to see African lions, tigers, tapirs, and crocodiles.
Asa Wright Nature Center
Trinidad has 617 butterfly species, 400 bird species, 108 mammal species, 55 reptile species, and 25 amphibian species. Most of these are found in Asa Wright Nature Center, which is located at a site that used to be a coffee and cocoa plantation, covering 198 acres. Get the opportunity to see the world's only nocturnal fruit-eating bird, the nocturnal oil bird. There are tourist accommodations right within the center.

Do you know the country's national bird? It is the Scarlet Ibis, and Caroni Bird Sanctuary is where they come to roost. There are guided boat tours through a swamp to see many of the birds. Other things that you may have the opportunity to see here are boa constrictors and two-toed sloth.
