- One of the most common signs of lice is an itching sensation on the scalp, neck and shoulders. This sensation is essentially an allergic reaction to lice saliva.
- Along with the itching sensation, some people will also suffer from small, red bumps that form along the scalp and sometimes neck and shoulders.
- Sometimes, a person dealing with lice may actually feel as if something is moving along his scalp and amongst his hair.
- Upon inspection of the scalp, you should be able to see nits, or the eggs of the lice. They'll be attached directly to the shaft of the hair and appear almost like dandruff.
- While inspecting the scalp, a good indication of lice is the actual presence of the little creatures. They'll appear almost like little seeds of white in and amongst the hair, scalp and shoulders.
