- 1). Remove the cloth diaper from the baby and wash the baby with water and a mild soap. Allow the baby to air dry and leave the diaper off for as long as possible. If you must put a diaper on, leave it slightly loose to allow airflow.
- 2). Use a natural laundry detergent on the diapers. If you use a regular detergent, it may contain chemicals that irritate your baby's skin so a natural or hypoallergenic detergent may be best for the diapers.
- 3). Change your baby often and rinse him with water and a mild soap if necessary. Avoid using baby wipes that may irritate the rash. Try to change the baby as soon as possible after he goes. The more time the urine or fecal matter has contact with the skin the more likely it can irritate the skin.
- 4). Use an all-natural diaper rash cream with every diaper change. The ointment will provide a barrier for the skin so that the urine or fecal matter has less contact with the baby's skin.
