This picture of the surface of Eros (in the main belt asteroid) was taken as NEAR closed in on the surface to a height of 250 meters. The image is about 12 meters in diameter and shows a group of rocks and boulders of varying degrees of burial. This image shows a part of the transition from a rocky area in the upper right to help the region, known as "pond" at the bottom left. The probe's landing site was about 15 meters from the bottom left of this framework.
