Google recently announced that it has provided just under one billion USD as an energy investment for the establishment of the world's largest wind farm in Oregon. On April 7th, Google invested another 350 million euros to a German solar power plant, the world's largest solar power plant; at the same time, the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System Company invested $168 million USD. The project, known as Farm Wind Flat Shepherds, is scheduled for completion in 2012, with an estimated maximum output of 845 megawatts after completion. This large power plant will be able to supply electricity for more than 50 million households when it is completed. This wind power plant is the first commercial wind farm in the United States that has adopted a technology known as the integrated turbine permanent magnet generator. The integrated turbine permanent magnet generator increases power efficiency and reliability and also provides power at a lower cost than previous technologies.

The cabinet, which regulates various activities conducted by the Industrial Technology Development Organization, has declared alternative energy supply goals such as development of new energy methods. In 2002, it approved a new guideline dictating alternative energy supply objectives that set forth both the conditions of quality of electricity generation as well as planning for future quantity.
To achieve the targets set by China's cabinet, more attention will be paid to environmental protection, which means the long-term prospects for oil supply and demand and alternative energy sources could be revised, if necessary. Fossil fuels like oil and coal could someday run out, and extracting nuclear power for energy has been opposed in recent months since it causes damage to the natural environment. Fossil fuel can also emit greenhouse gases and waste particles which are hazardous to the environment.
