Buying a Carpet Runner for Stairs is a Sensible Option to Choose

When I was younger I had the chore of keeping the stairs clean as part of my duties, which had been divided between my siblings and I. I used to hate the fact that I need to clean the stairs twice, once with a brush for the carpet and once with a damp cloth for the wooden stairs. This was to the fact that there was a carpet runner for stairs placed down which would protect the flooring beneath.

Now that I have my own home, I realise that having carpet runners for stairs is an excellent idea. There are certain high traffic areas in every home. That is why many carpets, floorings and rugs become worn out due to extensive usage. Stairs are an area which is used every day and as such the amount of traffic it receives will soon cause damage to the flooring. You will find that carpet runners for hallway and carpet runners for kitchen are also very popular as these are high traffic areas too.

Rubber flooring is also an effective way of preventing scratches to the surfaces of existing flooring. If you throw a party at which heels and other scratch-causing footwear is to be worn, then consider using rubber throw mats, again, in the high-traffic areas, to avoid permanent damage to your flooring. Also consider placing rubber flooring beneath objects such as office chairs with wheels, kitchen trolleys, and anything else that is likely to scratch the floor when moved. If you use throw mats, then you are also facilitating cleaning in these areas, which can be easily accomplished by removing the mat and spraying it down with a hose out of doors.

Although rubber flooring is a very practical option, many people do not like to use it since it does not look as attractive as other types of rugs and runners. Carpet runners for hall can be of a variety of fabrics with cotton, wool, and synthetic being very popular. These are usually machine washable and easy to maintain. They also tend to be cheap enough that that they can be replaced on a regular basis.

Care instructions for runners and rugs
  • Remove dried spots immediately by scraping carefully towards the middle of the spot.
  • Do not rub wet spots. Absorb moisture with paper towels, and clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
  • Vacuum, shake and rotate the rug regularly.
  • Professional carpet cleaning when needed.
  • Always use the standard floor head, never the rotating brush, when vacuuming the rug.

Vacuum your carpet runners regularly keeping up all the surface dust and dirt before it embeds itself deeper into the hair. It's a good idea to take it outside and shake it out to loosen any loose particles before vacuuming it. Brushing the hide with a hard plastic brush helps to keep the hair soft and fluffy and to loosen dirt particles. In this way you will be able to protect the flooring and also extend the life of the runner.
