June is, among other things, Aquarium Month. It's a great month to buy your child an aquarium and a few fish. Fish are relatively easy to care for and don't need to be taken out for walks! They don't shed and don't have dander that can cause allergies. But caring for fish can help teach children responsibility just like caring for any pet does.

Fish can also be interesting to watch and watching them swim around can also be relaxing.


Who doesn't find it soothing to watch fish swim around in a fish tank? Even more, though, having an aquarium can help kids learn about fish and their ecological system. It can generate a life-long interest in all things aquatic.

I say all the time that we want to expose our kids to different fields and experiences because we never know where they will find their path in life. An aquarium is one way to do this. I knew a boy who started out with one little fish tank when he was young, got more as he grew, and is now a marine biologist!
