Nerve Sciatica Treatment

Sciatica or sciatic nerve pain has a lot of causes, but it basically involves pressure, inflammation or injury on or near the sciatic nerve. There are many kinds of treatments for sciatica, from medications to surgery to unconventional cures that you may be surprised actually work. But first, let's talk about the common treatments that people recommend.

Most medical practitioners prescribe pain medication for sciatica, though this usually doesn't address the underlying cause of the symptom. It does, however, relieve the sciatic nerve pain, so many people decide to take it. Typically, over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDS such as Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen work well enough, but occasionally, some people need stronger painkillers such as opiate-based drugs to relieve the pain. The latter is only used as a last resort because these drugs are highly addictive.

Daily exercises are also recommended as part of thenerve sciatica treatment. Exercises that stretch and strengthen the back and leg muscles are particularly helpful for alleviating sciatica pain, as these help ease the pressure on the sciatic nerve.

Changing certain habits can help relieve your sciatic nerve pain. Poor posture, for example, has been linked to back and leg injuries, as it could be placing a lot of stress on your spine, disks, joints, muscles and nerves. It is important that you correct your posture. Don't slouch when you're sitting. Make sure that your back is supported adequately whenever you're on a chair. Also, try to avoid sitting down too much. It's a good idea to take a break every thirty to sixty minutes to walk around and stretch your muscles and stiff joints.

You should also take note of how you stand and walk. Standing for long periods of time can also cause back strain and can increase your sciatic pain. If you're going to be standing a lot, make sure that your back is straight and that your feet are slightly apart so your weight is more balanced. When you walk or jog, take note of your posture as well.

Your sleeping position is very important as well. For people suffering from sciatica, it is not a good idea to lie down with lots of pillows at your back or to sleep on your stomach frequently. You should maintain proper alignment of your spine when you're sleeping. If you can't lie down on your back, lie down sideways and put a pillow between your knees for support. Make sure that there is a pillow below your head as well to support your neck during sleep.

Surprisingly, improving your posture is an excellent nerve sciatica treatment. So if medications don't work for you, or you're tired of being dependent on drugs, you should definitely try exercise and changing your positioning habits.

Honestly, I'd rather go for natural treatments compared to filling my body and becoming dependent on medications that don't really work in the long term. If these still don't work for you, I recommend that you try this one secret treatment that I've discovered – you may be shocked to hear that it can make a huge difference in your sciatica in just 8 minutes!
