- Tracking hurricanes is fun, and it keeps you safe. Print a hurricane tracking map, and tell your parents about the hurricane activity you are tracking.
- Make sure your pets have enough food and supplies to last at least two weeks. If your family is evacuating, get a crate or other container to house your pet while you travel.
- Help your parents board windows and bring in outdoor furniture. Move your prized possessions from windows and up high, where wind and water can't reach them. Put report cards, photos and drawings in Ziploc bags so they will not be ruined by water.
- Go shopping with your parents for batteries, candles, flashlights, ice and your favorite nonperishable foods. Get some glow sticks to wear around your neck in case the power goes out. Make sure you have some books and games to play.
- Be careful when you go outside to play. There might be snakes, fallen trees and downed power lines. Make sure you have your parent's permission before going outside after a storm.
