- This act overrode laws some states had restricting out-of-state officers from carrying firearms inside their state. However, the law enforcement officers bringing firearms into other states must have proper identification. Although they are allowed to bring firearms into other states, they may not ignore state laws restricting them from carrying firearms onto private property, park or government property.
- Law enforcement officers qualified under this act must have the ability to arrest and may not be restricted by federal law to possess a firearm. They may not be under the influence of any alcohol or drugs.
- Retired law enforcement officers have the same rights as non-retired officers. However, they must have retired from service in good standing and may not have retired because of mental instability. They must also have received firearm training and must have worked as a law enforcement officer for at least 15 years.
