Teaching Gifted Students And Teaching Creativity Effectively

Teaching gifted students requires that teachers have the techniques and strategies to meet the academic and emotional needs of gifted students. Teaching creativity is also just as important as learning how to teach the gifted and talented and requires specific techniques as well. To teach gifted students, educators must aim to always challenge the most able students. Educators must learn how to identify gifted students, approach their talents, and learn how to appropriately enhance each students giftedness.

As an educator, it is important to develop the most effective program to teach gifted students as well teaching creativity. The first step is of course to be able to identify these students and then to acquire the knowledge necessary to work with them. Identifying creative behavior is important and there are a few behaviors that are associated with creative individuals that you can look out for. Analyzing and assessing creativity is similar to assessing gifted students as well. Gifted students can also be creative, and then combining the tools for teaching gifted students and teaching creativity may be appropriate.

When teaching gifted students you should aim to develop a curriculum that meets the unique attributes of gifted students. It would be helpful to learn how to teach accelerated, enriched, project and independent study material. To be truly successful, teachers should identify the misconceptions they may face regarding the talented while teaching gifted students. There are many political, social, and parental misconceptions. To overcome these misconceptions teachers should look into educational, psychological, and longitudinal studies in order to improve educational opportunities for the gifted.

Teaching creativity raises similar concerns and obstacles. Teachers can develop a model to teach creative lessons and meet the needs of creative-minded students. Creativity needs to be nurtured and teachers should know all of the different types of creativity to begin. Creativity can be found in a wide range of subjects such as mathematics, visual, mechanical, artistic, linguistic, athletic and analytic. Teachers can enhance the creative behavior inherent in each student by practicing the best methods for teaching creativity. The model used by teachers to develop creative lessons has four components as follows: catalyst to action, incubation, process, and outcomes.

It can be a challenge to teach the gifted, talented, and creative, but it can also be very rewarding if done effectively. To be successful with teaching creativity and teaching gifted students, educators must debunk the myths and dig in to the research about these students. Developing the assignments, group projects, independent studies, and lessons to target and improve creativity and talent should be based on the research and skills learned. Making a strong curriculum and knowing how to follow it is also crucial to being a successful teacher of gifted and talented students. It can be difficult to meet the needs of every gifted and creative student, but achieving the objectives you set in the beginning is a great way to start. Once teachers realize the obstacles for gifted and creative students and how to overcome them they can truly make a difference and be successful.
