- In order to take advantage of state assisted alcohol or drug treatment, you must first be accepted into the programs offered. Typically, proof of income and information is necessary in order to utilize these services.
- If you are using alcohol or drugs and it is affecting your life negatively, treatment may be necessary. Contact your local NA office and speak to a qualified addictions specialist for free; he will be able to give you names of treatment centers.
- Once you speak to a counselor, she may ask you to come in and attend a meeting. These free meetings involve other addicts who share their stories and help to show you are not alone.
- There are free treatment centers in every state; your local NA is the best way to find out where. If you will be doing outpatient treatment, consistent and regular individualized therapy as well as group will be mandated. Medications will also be given if deemed appropriate.
- Free inpatient drug treatment exists but is usually overcrowded and for many is ineffective. If indigent, the state will cover all your expenses including medication, therapy, room and board and food.
- Utilizing non-profit organizations is the key to receiving treatment if you cannot afford it; however, you must first be committed to stop.
